Northeast
	Bergen Hudson	Essex Passaic

his most densely populated region is also known as the "Gateway to Freedom" because of the millions of immigrants that entered the country through Ellis Island under the watchful eyes of the Statue of Liberty. Today, the area remains the primary means of entering the state from other parts of the country and the world through Newark International Airport.

Millions of people "visit" the area each fall as well, via their television sets tuned into the Jets or Giants games at the Meadowlands Sports Complex, which also features a variety of other sports and entertainment events.

Bergen County
This northwest most region includes the Palisades Interstate Park (only in NY/NJ would a park be named after an interstate) which encompasses the western bank of the Hudson River from the George Washington Bridge north to New York State. 

Essex County
Of particular note here, is the relatively recent addition of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. To make your evening out complete, the many Portuguese restaurants of Newark's Ironbound section are accessible by shuttle bus from the center.

Passaic County
A study in contrasts, this area reaches from the Great Falls in the heavily industrialized Paterson to the wilderness that is Ringwood State Park on the New York border and also includes the Wanaque Reservoir that supplies much of the drinking water in the region.
